Anderson Standifer was a member of the Cloud Creek Baptist Church, which he joined November 7, 1801. This is about the time of his mother Rachael's death. Benjamin and Rachael appear on the list of charter members of Cloud Creek Church, Oglethorpe County, GA in 1788. The Church is located at Fort Olive. A genealogist in GA says he thinks Rachael is buried in the churchyard at Fort Olive, GA.

Her land of "one labor of land" was granted in 8 November 1832. On February 3, 1838, Elizabeth was granted "one Labor of Land" by the board of Land Commissioners for Bastrop County, TX. (File 426, #132.)
She later married Leman Barker on 11 Nov 1830, Brazoria Co, TX.
On 18 Apr 1838 "for and in consideration of the sum of Ten Thousand dollars to me in hand paid" she sold "unto Michael Young a certain tract or parcel of land to wit lying and being in the County of Bastrop and being the north east half of League No. 24 and being the League of Land granted to me and y heirs by the State of Coahuila...." Elizabeth Standerford [sic] made her mark and James Standeford [sic], William Standerford [sic], Jacob Standerford [sic] and John Litton signed.
In an affidavit made by Jacob Standifer 27 Nov 1897 he stated: "In 1838 soon after the conveyance of the North half of the league to Michael Young as above state, my mother Elizabeth Standifer died intestate...."
Also, Elizabeth Standeford [sic] and James Standeford [sic] and Sarah, his wife, are shown on Austin's "Register of Families" as arriving in March 1829. Others who arrived from Alabama at the same time were A. J. James, a single man, Michael Young and his wife Rachel, Silas Jones and his wife Emily and William Scott, a single man.

From: Kesselus, Kenneth; History of Bastrop Co, TX Before Statehood; Jenkins Pub., 1986. The best known encounter of Bastrop County men with the Indians is the scalping of Josiah Wilbarger which was first reported in the Telegraph and Texas Register, a Houston newspaper, in 1840. In 1833 Wilbarger were exploring the present day sit of Austin when they were attacked by more than 100 Indians. After a monumental fight, Wilbarger was wounded and apparently dead. The Indians scalped him and retired. Toward evening he recovered his senses and found that in addition to the wounds on his neck, two arrows had penetrated his body, and another rifle ball had penetrated the fleshy part of his thigh. He crawled to a small pool of water and lay there all night. The next day he was found by his companions. He was taken home, his wounds dressed; and he entirely recovered. James Standifer was one of his four companions.
Tales of
Old-Time Texas, by J. Frank Dobie, which is a collection of short
stories. One story called "The Dream That Saved Wilbarger"
mentions a Standifer. The Hornsby cabin mentioned in the story is on the
Colorado River, nine miles south of present day Austin. Early in
August, 1833, Wilbarger went up to Hornsby's to join a party of men scouting for
headrights. The Hornsby home had already become a kind of land's-end
headquarters. After spending the night, Wilbarger, in company with four
men named Christian, Haynie, Standifer and Strother,
set out to explore to the northwest. On Walnut Creek they spotted a lone
Indian who ran and escaped into the cedar hills.
After the chase the party turned homeward. Near Pecan Spring, as the place
was later named, they halted to noon. Wilbarger, Christian and Strother
unsaddled their horses and hobbled them to graze; the other two men staked
theirs with the saddles on, merely removing the bridles. While the men
were eating, they were without warning fired on by Indians, who had skulked up
in the brush and timber. Some of the Indians had only bows and arrows.
The white men got behind trees, which were small, and returned the fire, but
soon Strother received a mortal wound and a ball broke Christian's thigh.
With an arrow through the calf of a leg and a flesh wound in a hp, Wilbarger
dragged Christian behind a tree. About this time an arrow went into his
other leg. Haynie and Standifer now made for
their saddled horses. As they mounted, Wilbarger started running toward
them, calling upon them to wait. They saw him pitch headlong to the
ground. Then they saw "fifty Indians" rushing for his scalp.
They got away and reached Hornsby's house in safety.
James was left at home during the Texas Revolution to protect the women and children of the community while Jacob and William went to fight.
p. 113 James Williamson and wife gave the land for a church to the Christian church (Campbellite). On p.57 it is stated he was county treasurer 1866-67.
He moved to Lampasas Co, TX in 1879 after the death of his wife. He was in Sam Houston's army and took part in the Battle of San Jacinto. He was a Mason and a member of the Christian Church.
James is buried at Young's Prairie Cemetery, Bastrop, TX.

From: Ray, Worth L., Austin Colony Pioneers, p. 309. "It was a common remark as late as 1875 and 1880 that there were more survivors of the Battle of San Jacinto then living in Bastrop County than in any other county in Texas. Chief among these, as a matter of course, were the surviving members of the company of Capt. Jesse Billingsley, which was composed almost entirely of men who lived in Bastrop County at the time of their enlistment. In the Archives of Texas and the General Land Office is a copy of the muster roll of Captain Billingsley's company. This roll contains names of some 48 men, while Dixon & Kemp's list, published on p. 155 of Heroes of San Jacinto, also purports to be a correct list, contains 51 names. It is probable that there are minor mistakes in both lists.
Captain Jesse Billingsley was born in Tennessee, October 10, 1810, the son of Jeptha Billingsley and his wife Miriam Randolph. He arrived in Texas in 1834 and settled in the municipality of Mina. Before Texas had declared her independence, Jesse Billingsley organized his company, which was known as the 'Mina Volunteers.' It was subsequently called Company C of General Edward Burleson's regiment, and so fought in the Battle of San Jacinto. He was also with Matthew Caldwell in the Battle of Salada Creek near San Antonio, in the Woll campaign. He married a widow, Mrs. Eliza Ann Wimers, in Bastrop County, and they had three children, Miriam, Frank, and Jeptha Billingsley. He died in Bastrop County at Cedar Creek, his home."
Private soldiers in his company were George B. Erath, Jacob L. Standifer, and William Bailey Standifer among others.
From: Republic of Texas Application Abstracts; p. 314. "William B. Standefer, Bastrop Co., 18 Nov 1870, approved. Age 57. In Feb 1836 he joined Capt. Jesse Billingsley's company and fought at the Battle of San Jacinto. Michael Young and J. L. Standefer, Bastrop Co., served with the applicant under Billingsley. James R. Pace, Travis., served with the applicant. B. H. David and Joseph Barnhart, Travis Co. affirmed service. Standefer came to Texas in 1829.
