Contributed by Charles W. Oliver.Funeral services were held Thursday in Belton, Texas, at First Christian Church for Mrs. Janie Litton Harling, 96. Burial was in the North Belton Cemetery.
Mrs. Harling died Wednesday at the Texas Confederate Home in Austin where she was making her home. Prior to going there, she had resided in Belton some 50 years. She was the widow of John Eldred Harling.
Her father, John Litton, came to Texas in 1829 and was in the third Austin Colony which settled in Bastrop County. He fought in the Texas War for Independence, and later served as a Texas Ranger.
She was a ;member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the First Christian Church in Belton.
Survivors include four daughters: Mrs. Elsie Means, Belton; Miss Grace Harling, Austin; Mrs. M. E. Mugg, Midland; Mrs. Rosa Lee Crawford, Austin; one son, L. C. Harling, Nacogdoches.
