According to Aaron S. McKinzie's biography in the Hamilton Co., IL History by
Goodspeed, George was born in Canada, settled in TN when a young man and came to
White Co., IL to settle. Others believe him to have been
born in Nigg, Kincardine, Scotland. There is a George McKenzie, christened
7 Feb 1768 Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland. His father was Alexander
McKenzie. *submitted by Janis Gilmore.
Mr. James McKenzie says "George McKenzie was born in Scotland in 1771, he migrated to Canada, but didn't like it there so he walked down the east coast to the Carolinas and then inland to Tennessee. Another researcher, Harry McKenzie, says that "George McKenzie disliked conditions in Canada but had no money to re-locate, so he walked down the coast line to VA, then to Tenn. and then to So. Illinois. (From letter dated 1988 from Silvetta Parsons to Mrs. Draper)
Another researcher states that George McKenzie was christened in Nye, Kigg, Scotland on May 13, 1771. His parents are believed to be John and Janis McKye McKenzie.
