*This genealogy is important to the Standiford line as well as to Sandefur descendants. It was thought by many Standiford researchers that father of John Standiford (married to Margaret Skelton) was this John Sandifor, prior to this discovery.

John Sandefor made out his will on March 12, 1685. It was proven on January 25, 1692, in York County, VA. In his will he mentions his wife, Joan; his daughter, Maryann; and his son John. He also mentioned his grandsons, John and Daniel Wootton. He left his land to be equally divided between his two children, with 100 acres going to John and 100 acres going to his daughter, Maryann Wootton. On April 2, 1694, a disposition of John Sandiver says he is about 28 years old. This would be the son of John and Joanne. He would have been born about 1666.
*From: Cavaliers and Pioneers--Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents & Grants, abstracted by Neil Marion Nugent, 1979 (Vol. II) is the follow: "John Hall, 45 acs., Warwick County, in the
Oaken Swamp; adj. Mr. Samuel Ransha; the widdow Cortit; Jno Sandifer & Thomas Wootton: 28 April 1691. (Patent Book)". This land was in the Oaken Swamp. This is the day after this John Sandefur died. From: English Duplicates of Lost VA Records, compiled by Louis de Cognets, Jr., 1981, under the heading "A Rent Roll of all the Land in York Co., VA in 1704", we find: Jno Sanderver - 100 acres. This land is mentioned again when Thomas Sandifer (b. 8 Aug 1699 to John and Mary Sandefur) sold 70 acres of land to Elizabeth Haywood, widow, for 5 shillings, "which was given my father by my grandfather." From: York Deeds & Bonds, Book 3, Pt., 2 (p. 362&368). On May 7, 1721, the day before the deed, Thomas Sandfer and his wife, Elizabeth and Elizabeth Howard, widow, made an agreement for 5 shilings for land in the Oaken Swamp for 70 acres "given to my father and by inheritance to me."/s/Robert Belvin, William Hayward and William Trotter. From this we also learn that the John Sandifor who died April 27, 1691 was not the immigrant. It is significant to note that there was an early Mathew Sandefur who were granted 100 acres in York County, VA in 1658 along with Richard Adams. John Sandever and Richard Adams were granted 200 acres in the New Poquoson in York County, VA on October 5, 1658 and an additional 200 acres on January 22, 1662. Nothing is known of this early Mathew but it is probable that this Mathew and this John were brothers. Some say they were the original immigrants; while others believe they were the sons of Vincent Sanford of York Co., VA.
