Last Will and Testament of John Sandifur

In the name of God Amen.  I, John Sandifur being sick in body but possessing my usual mind and recollection thanks be to God do this the 24th day of January in the year of our Lord 1826 make and establish my last will and testament in manner and form as follows (viz).

Item 1st:  I lend unto my loving wife one Negro woman (?) and her child Ransom, during her life.  I also lend unto her my Negro man Aaron for the term of four years for the support of my young child Henry Eldridge Sandifer.   I also lend unto my said wife Elizabeth one third of the lands of which I possess beginning the line at Capt. William Moody's line on the road thence along said road leading from said Moody's toward Mr. Nath'l James as far as will include the quantity above mentioned, thence across to Jock Swamp (Mr. G. Foxes) line thence along said Foxes line to Capt Moody's line thence along said Moody's line to the first station.   I further loan her two beds and furniture and all the balance of my household and kitchen furniture except the beds not above named, seven hogs and her choice in one of my horse during her natural life.

Item 2.  I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Eldridge Sandifer two Negro boys Jacob and Ben and all my land lying the South side of the road which included the part above loaned to my wife, to him and his heirs forever--I also give to my said son one bed and furniture.

Item. I give to my grand daughter Frances Elizabeth one Negro girl Maser to her and her heirs forever.

Item. I give and bequeath to my sons William, Patrick and John Sandifur all such property as I have heretofore put them in possession of to them and their heirs forever.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Garner one Negro girl named July now in her possession to her and her heirs forever.

Item. My will is that all the land I own on the other side of the road opposite my dwelling house be sold as well as the balance of my property no heretofore given away except the property loaned to my wife and after paying all my just debts out of the proceeds of the same, to be equally divided between my three sons William, John and Patrick Sandefur and all the property heretofore loaned to my wife, I will at her death to be sold and equally divided between all my children now living and so include my Grand Children John and Elizabeth Key in one share, their mother being dead.  As respects my son Henry Eldridge my will and desire is that he be well educated out of the rents of his lands and hire of his Negroes and my Executor is authorized to direct the manner of cleaning and cultivating the said lands when rented out.

Lastly, I nominate and appoint my neighbor Richard H. Weaver my Executor to this my last will and testament at the same time revoking all the Wills save this by me heretofore made.  Signed, sealed and acknowledged to be his last will and testament.

Northampton County June Court 1826.  This last will and testament of John Sandifur deceased was exhibited in open court and proved on two forms of law by the oath of James W. Love one of the subscribing witness thereto Whereupon Richard H. Weaver the Executor herein named qualified according to law and ordered to be certified and recorded.  Teste. John W. Harrison C.C.
