Last Will and Testament of Robert Sandefur 28th day of Dec 1769-Elizabeth City County, VA I Robert Sandefur of the parish & County of Elizabeth City being of sound and disposing mind & memory do make and ordain this my last will & testament in writing as followeth: Imprimis I desire that all my just debts of funeral expense be first satisfied and paid. Item: I give & bequeath unto my natural son Robert Sandefur Russell son of Ann Russell two hundred acres of land located off in the following manner, beginning at the mill swamp running south to the head of my land so as to contain the said two hundred acres and to adjoin the land of Robert Bumpass and Edward Armistead together with two slaves, namely Tom & Hannah & the future increase of the said female slave to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever and in default the such issue. Then I lend the said land & slaves to my daughter Anne Sandefur during her natural life and at her death to go to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten forever and in default of such issue then my desire is that the same be equally divided between my brother William Sandefur and my nephew John Sandefur son of my brother James Sandefur and the heirs of their bodies lawfully begotten forever. Item: I give to my natural son twenty five pounds current money of Virginia toward his education, I likewise give to him all my sadler's tools Item: I lend unto Anne Russell daughter of Ann Hurst my negroe woman Sarah until the time for her marriage or death which shall happen and then my desire is that the said Sarah together with her future increase go and descend in the same manner as the land & slaves aforementioned are directed to go and descend. Item: I lend to my daughter Anne Sandefur the residue of my whole estate real & personal during her natural life and at her death I give the same to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten for ever and in default of such issue my desire is that the same go to my said natural son Robert Sandefur Russell and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever and in default of such issue to my said brother William & my said nephew John equally to be divided betwixt them to them & the heirs of their bodies lawfully begotten forever reserving out of the same before the division is to be made fifty pounds current money in case the said estate shall happen to come to the possession of the said William & John Sandefur which said sum of money in that case give to my cousin Robert Sandefur son of my said nephew John Sandefur and to his heirs. Lastly: I do hereby nominate, constitute & appoint my friend Francis Jones & John Tabb to be executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking, disannulling & making void all other wills by me heretofore made and declaring this only to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 28 day of Dec 1769.
