H. and Margaret Standefer, was born on the old home place east of Scottville February 24, 1854, and departed this life July 3, at 1 p.m., age 63 years, 4 months and 9 days.  He had been in failing health all spring, but still helped with the work until a few days before he died.  He was thought to be improving, as he never complained.  On Saturday morning, June 30, he was stricken with paralysis, which caused his death a few days later.  In the spring of 1881 he moved with his parents to Athensville, where he resided until his death.  December 24, 1884, he was married to Miss Nancy J. Thaxton, of the Greenfield vicinity.  His wife died May 28, 1912.  He leaves two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Mary E. Blevins, of Parsons, Kans.; Robert, of Palmyra; Isham of Roodhouse; and Joseph and Mrs. Dosia Fair, of Carrollton.  In early life he embraced the Christian religion and joined the Mt. Moriah church near his home, removing his membership to Athensville when he removed to this place.  Elder Alonzo Rigg, of Girard, preached the funeral sermon at the Baptist church in Athensville July 5.  The interment was in the Sanders cemetery.
