Marshall G. Standefer

Marshall G. Standefer, 65, died Tuesday, May 8, 1990 in Champaign.  He was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1982, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.  He served in France and Germany with the 90th Infantry Division during World War II and was awarded the Combat Medical Badge.

He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 24 of Champaign, a 32nd degree Mason of Danville Consistory and Urbana Lodge 157, the Ansar Temple of Springfield and Hi-Lo Wheelers Illinois Shrine Club.

Born in Greenfield, he was the son of the late Clarence and Anna (Ballard) Standefer.  He married the former Lillian Stickels on November 19, 1950, and she died on September 1, 1963.  He later married the former Evenly Daly on December 6, 1964, in Champaign and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sue Ellen Morgan of Hazen, Ark., and Loretta Jane Benik of Taylorville (IL); nine grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald Standefer of Wood River.  Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Services were held Friday at Owens Funeral Home in Champaign with the Rev. Dale Tutje officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.

Memorials may be given to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis.
