1. PETER1 SANDIFER  was born October 10, 1771, and died December 20, 1844 in Pike County, Mississippi.  He married (1) Unknown in South Carolina.  She died Bet. 1812 - 1815.  He married (2) Susan Carr August 01, 1815 in Amite Co., Mississippi.  She was born Abt. 1782, and died Aft. 1850.

Peter can be found living in the Barnwell District in 1806. (Barnwell County Deed Book C, p. 81-82 and 1806 Barnwell County Probate file of Levi Harrel where Peter Sanderford verified inventory).

On March 7, 1812, Peter Sandifer with wife and four children from Barnwell District was issued a Georgia Passport to travel through the Indian Nations to the Western Country.  (From: Passports Issued by Governors of Georgia 1810-1820, p. 92)

Peter and family are in Louisiana by December of 1812. (From: American State Papers, Vol. 3, p. 68), where his 6th and last child, Peter, Jr., is born.  He is on Magee's Creek in Pike Co., MS by 1820.

Birthplace of Peter is unknown.  His son John H. Sandifer gave Virginia as birthplace of father on the 1880 census, and South Carolina as birthplace of mother.  The name of Peter's father is at this time unknown.   His mother was Elizabeth.

(Located about 3 miles south of Norway, SC, approximately 3 miles east of the Barnwell County line or 2 miles north of the present day Bamberg County line -- Bamberg County was formed from Barnwell County in 1897.)

Gilbert Grubbs came from Georgia.  He married Elizabeth Sandifer.  She was a daughter of Peter Sandifer, Sr., who settled on Magees Creek in 1820, the year of the great Pacific-Atlantic hurricane, and a sister of William, Jackson (should be John), Peter, Jr., and Robert.  Gilbert settled on Union Creek in the same period with John Warren.  He was the father of Benjamin Grubbs, Peter and Gilbert, Jr.  Benjamin was the father of Henry Grubbs.  His wife was Ellen Gartman, a daughter of Bartholemew Gartman, from Germany.  Bartholemew Gartman's wife was a daughter of Daniel O'Quin, Nellie, from North Carolina.  Her brothers were Daniel, Ezekiel and Jehu O'Quin.  Bartholemew Gartman and Nellie O'Quin were the parents of George, David, Josiah, John and Perry Gartman and Cynthia, who married Joe Deer; Katie, who married Charles Carter in Louisiana, Mary who married Elias Smith; Caroline, who married William Grubbs, and Ellen who married Benjamin Grubbs. George Gatrman married Sarah Holmes, daughter of Elisha Holmes, Jr. Henry Grubbs married Lenoir Angeline Ellzey, daughter of Louis Ellzey and Mary Ann Holmes.   Henry Grubbs owns the plantation on Magees Creek settled by a man named Toney about 1798, who sold it to Robert Sandifer, who built the hewed-log house on it now occupied by its present owner.  It passed into the hands of his brother John, who sold it to Sampsom L. Lamkin, a son of William Lamkin.

                      vii.      LUCINDA THOMAS SANDIFER,  born November 20, 1888 in Richardson, Texas; died December 20, 1952 in La Junta, Otero Co., Colorado.  She married Converse Hudson February 12, 1910 in Childress, Childress County, Texas; born September 1888 in Rosston, Texas; died February 28, 1953 in La Junta, Otero County, Colorado.  

                     viii.     ROBERT EUGENE SANDIFER born Abt. 1890 in Texas; died Abt. 1936 in one of the Carolinas. 
It has been said by family members that Robert Eugene Sandifer stayed on the East Coast after his discharge from the Navy (WW I).  It is thought he married an Alice and perhaps had one daughter.

"Sandifer, Bert E., (see Sanders)- Celia Margaret Walkley born march 29, 1882 married November 30, 1902 Bert E. Sandifer, born Sept. 1, 1881. They are the parents of: William Franklin, born September 17,1903; Robert Lee, born January 23, 1905; Owen Haskell born August 18, 1907; Alice Catherine born November 11, 1912 and Maggaret Elizabeth Sandifer born August 31, 1914.

James Chambers, born June 11, 1831 married April 12, 1851 Catherine Hendricks born May 3, 1829. He was elected to Council from Cooweescoowee District August 1, 1887. He died December 16, 1897. Mrs. Catherine Chambers died Feb. 8 1912. Their daughter Alice Jane was born June 5, 1852, she married August 18, 1872 William Walkley, born March 14, 1835 in Gloucester, England. He died October 7, 1884.  William and Alice Jane (Chambers) Walkley were the parents of Mrs. Celia Margaret Sandifer.
