He married EMMA LEE MOORE December 21, 1917 in Hattiesburg, Forrest Co., MS, daughter of Thomas Moore and Isabelle Mills.
Notes for LEONIDAS CALMET "SHACK" STANDIFER, JR.
Leonidas C. Standifer, Jr. was originally named Paul CALMET because his father admired the Apostle Paul. After his father's death, his mother renamed him Leonidas Calmet in honor of his father. As a child he was called "Little Cal", but in school he preferred the nickname "Shack", a derivation of the biblical Meshach. In a Sunday School play he had taken the part of Meshach in the story of the "Fiery Furnace".
Shack is mentioned as a boy in an autobiography by William Faulkner's brother, called "My Brother Bill." He is named as Shack Standifer, who drove the family cow back from a pasture near the Faulkner family home. The Faulkner's lived in the "wrong" part of town and Shack knew them but didn't play with them. (From Scott Standifer, Shack's grandson).
