Eliza C. Gates was born January 1834 in Equality, Gallatin Co., IL and died June
4, 1916 in McLeansboro, Hamilton Co., IL. She is buried at Cherry Grove
Cemetery. She married Mike Haley in 1851. Children: Sarah Ellen
Haley, married Lorenzo Dow Maulding; John Henry Haley and Thomas Haley,
twins. Eliza had a twin sister whose name is not known at this time.
Eliza married Edward Burns September 9, 1858 in Gallatin Co., IL.
Children: Catherine (Kate) Burns, Edward Burns, Michael Burns, who married Edith
Susan Cannon, Martha Elizabeth (Lizzie) Burns who married Oliver Coy, James P.
Burns, Christopher Columbus Burns who married Margaret Lula Daily and Clara
Burns who married Felix Wedding.
Jeniza Gates was the wife of Adam Hedger and
Scovis Sylvanus Harrelson.
Ralph Harrleson, great-grandson of Jeniza,
put an article in the Springhouse Magazine and told a story about the
sisters riding a mule to a ball in Gallatin County and danced with
Abraham Lincoln. |
