In 1857-1860 Aquilla executed a number of deeds throughout Adair, Casey and Taylor Counties settling the estates of his and his wife's families and used the money to move to Knight's Prairie, Hamilton County, Illinois.  This was possibly due to opposition to the policy of slavery as his brother Levi was a staunch abolitionist and moved at or about this time to Missouri for this reason.

Aquilla is buried in Ten Mile Cemetery west of McLeansboro, Illinois in the center of the north
section towards the woods.  His great grand daughter believes that his wife Matilda is buried there
and says that a stone marked her in the past but in 1998 there were no markings for Matilda.

Notes for Matilda Wethington:
Matilda survived her husband but despite a personal search of the courthouse records I was unable to
determine her date of death or burial place.  Dinner with an elderly cousin revived the memory that                   she was buried adjacent her husband and that there was a supplementary stone adjacent his monument to that effect at sometime early in this century, but examination of the site today revealed no evidence of her marker.
The cemetery plat in the county office indicated only that she was the purchaser of her husbands lot and so it seems logical that she is buried there.

Matilda was raised a Catholic but her husband was not, nor were the children raised Catholic.  It is possible that after her husbands death she returned to the folds of the Catholic Church so alternatively I need to check the cemetery at Piopolis, Hamilton County to see if she is buried there.
