Mary's Cemetery

The Mary's Cemetery is the combination of research done by Harriet Vaught in 1963 and a booklet titled "A History of Mary's Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church" printed in 1973

"On the hill just east of the church in the cemetery bearing her name, Mary Carey was the first person to be buried.  The land for both church and cemetery was given by her son, George W. Carey.  It is said that no one was ever charged a fee for burial privilege in this cemetery and no records were kept -- people just went in and selected a place and proceeded to bury their loved one.
Inscriptions were copied by Charles E. Hatton."
