Mary Guy "Polly" Hoge was born December 26, 1795, Frederick Co, VA, the daughter of Joseph L. Hoge and Barbara Brawley.  She died in October 13, 1876 in Cherokee County, AL.  She married William H. Standifer May 23, 1814 in TN.

She was born one hundred and thirteen years after her forebears, William Hoge of the Haig family and Barbara Hume, in 1682 came to America from Paisley, Scotland.

These Hoges built the first edifice of public worship in the Valley of Virginia on the Opequon branch of the Potomac.  As Mrs. William Heard Standifer, Polly Hoge was the third white woman to come into the wilderness of Northeast Alabama.
