"James Standeford son of Skilton Standeford was born in Harford county, MD, Jan 25, 1800 and came to WV with his parents when quite young. James when a young man purchased 806 acres of land from John McLee of Wheeling Nov 27 1827 a part of which he cleared and erected a cabin. He was married to Miss Eliza Smith July 26, 1827. He had a family of four children one girl and three boys. He died Jan 17, 1877. John S. the oldest son, is living on the homestead. He was boy in 1832 and in 1866 he was married to Miss Rebecca Cunningham. They have a family of four children, three boys and one girl. William a brother of John's enlisted in company B 12th WV regiment and was killed in action at the battle of Winchester. 
(p. 402) it mentions that James Standiford was a trustee of the Allen Grove Presb church, organized in 1852
(p.380) James Standiford is mentioned i n connection with the Marshall county judiciary in 1835 as a supervisor.
