February 16, 1742/43: John Sandefur Deed of Gift to Sons. "KNOW ALL MEN by these present that John Sandefur of Elizabeth City County have for divers good causes and considerations me (?) thereunto especially moving Do by these present give unto my sons Robert and William and Peter Sandefur one Negro boy and three Negro girls that is to say my Negro girl Sarah I now give unto my son Robert Sandefur and all my goods that my son Robert have in his possessions. I also give unto my son William Sandefur one Negro girl named Judy. I also give unto my son Peter Sandefur one Negro girl named Lucy and one Negro boy named Ned. Now the above mentioned Negros given to my said three sons Robert, William and Peter Sandefur. I Do hereby in the paiment (payment) of One hundred pounds cash warrant unto my said three sons Robert, William and Peter Sandefur unto each and every of them their Heirs and assigns forever. Henry Skidmore of the county of Lee and State of Virginia of the one part, and
William Standerford of the county of Lee and sate aforesaid of the other part.
_____ that the said Henry Skidmore for and in consideration of the sum of
one hundred & fifty dollars current money of Virginia to him by the said
William Standerford in hand paid the ____whereof the said Henry Skidmore doth
hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed unto the said
William Standerford his heirs and assigns. A certain parcel of land containing
seventy acres be the same more ___, lying and being in the county of Lee
aforesaid boundered as followeth to wit. Beginning
on three post oaks on the west side of the cedar Ridge S H E.197 poles to a
large white oak & hickory sapling on the side of a ridge N. 40o E.

and with the said William Standerford his heirs and assignees that the said

persons whomsoever will warrant and for over defend.

Then on October 2, 1811 William Standefer and Mary his wife of Lee Co sold the 70 acres to William Cheek, Deed Bk 2, p 385." It lists a couple of other later deeds.
1815. February 4. James Fletcher of Lee County conveyed 100 acres bearing date 9 February 1811 lying on the North side of Wallens Ridge to William Standeford for $200.

Some reseachers believe that we all descend from an early Vincent. These early land grants established that there was an early Vincent Stanford living on the waters of the Rappahannock River, which adjoins Lancaster Co., VA.
*In the Clark, Rigdon, Wilson and Durham Families of Harford County, Maryland by Ella Harrison Rowe in Chapter Five: The Standiford Family, this information is given regarding the first Standiford. Ms. Rowe states that "this family was first found in Virginia about 1657 where Vincent Standiford lived on 200 acres of land on the north side of the Rappahannock River, running west to a branch of the Corotoman River in Lancaster County. He was thought to be the progenitor of the Standifords who came to Baltimore, now Harford County. He had a son William who was the first to come to Maryland.

"John Sandover having made appeared by sufficient evidence that Richard Adams hath sworne to be the death of him and that he strucke at him once with his axe and missed wounding of him very narrowly and having taken his oath that he doth dayly goe in great feare and danger of his life, it is the opinion of the Court that Richard Adams remaine in the Sheriff's custody until he give bond for thee keeping of his Majestices peace."

From English Duplicates of Lost VA Records, compiled by Louis des Cognets, Jr., 1981, under the heading "A Rent Roll of all the Land in York Co., VA in 1704, " Jno Sanderver, 100 acres. This land is mentioned again when Thomas (b. August 31, 1699, to John and Mary Sandefur) sold 70 acres of land to Elizabeth Hayweeld, widow, for 5 shillings, "which was given my father by my grandfather." York Deeds & Bonds, Book 3, Pt. 2, p. 363-368. On May 7. 1721, the day before the deed, Tomas Sandfer and his wife, Elizabeth and Elizabeth Howard, widow, made an agreement for 5 shillings for land in the Oaken Swamp for 70 acres "given to my father and by inheritance to me:. Signed: Robert Belvin, William Hayward, and William Trotter.
