The Texas Rangers were officially organized in 1835 during the Texas Revolution.  They became established as the guardians of the Texas frontier, particularly against the Indians.  They were said to "ride like Mexicans, shoot like Tennesseans, and fight like the very devil himself."  They wore no uniforms nor any standard gear except for the six-shooter.  There were many divisions of the Rangers over the years.  The records found here for our soldiers will indicate the the name of the Ranger unit and the time period the unit was in existence.  These scanned records are from the Texas Archives and may be slow to load.  But, they will be worth the wait.

There is an excellent Texas Ranger website you won't want to miss.  The Texas Rangers .  The main website is called Lone Star Junction and it is full of Texas history and on-line databases.
