Generation No. 1
1. JUDA2 STANDIFER
(JAMES1) was born February 21, 1834 in Lee County, Virginia, and died
March 04, 1931 in Arlington, Tarrant County, Texas. She met HENRY
JEFFERSON BAKER, son of WILLIAM BAKER and PATIENCE RICE. He was born
Abt. 1836 in Mulberry Gap, Claiborne County, Tennessee, and died Abt.
1865 in Virginia.
Notes for JUDA STANDIFER:
Juda Standifer was born Feb. 21, 1834 in Lee County,
Virginia, the daughter of James and Sally Standifer. In 1840 in Lee
County, Virginia and in 1850 in Hancock County, Tennessee she was enumerated in
her parents'
household. She was listed as 17 years of age in 1850.
In 1860 she was enumerated in Hancock County as the head of
the household [Sistler's Ha-149-508]. She was 25 years of age and she
lived alone, but her home was just a few households from her parents.
In 1870 she was living with Austin Painter age 67 and his
family at the time of the census in Mulberry Gap District 9 of Hancock County
[#3-3]. Stephen Standifer known to be a son of James and Sally was living
nearby [#11-11].
In 1880 Juda was still listed in the household of Austin
Painter, now age 75, in Civil District 9 of Hancock County [p. 341 #50-50].
She was 46 years of age and born in Virginia. There is evidence that Juda
married H. Baker
before 1855 and had a son, Daniel B. Baker (July 24, 1855) and was living with
her granddaughter, Roxie B. McKissick, in Collin County, Texas in 1900.
She was still using her maiden name of Standifer (she was listed as Judie
Standifer, and grandmother on the 1900 census). She died on March 4, 1931 after
a lingering illness, she was 97 years and 11 days old. (This would make her
birthday as Feb. 21, 1834). She is buried in Parkdale Cemetery,
Arlington, Tarrant County, Texas.

Notes for HENRY JEFFERSON BAKER:
The Claiborne County court records were searched for a
bastardy hearing but none was found, so there is still no proof that Henry Baker
ever married Juda Standifer. Two entries for Henry Baker were found:
the first on Monday
January 5, 1857 when he was wrongfully taxed $1.20 and on Monday 5 October 1857
when it was noted that he was taxed for one poll (meaning he had no land) but
that he had left the state. So this gives us an idea of when he
moved to Knox County, Kentucky.
The following entries were found in the Baptist Church
records for Arlington, Tarrent County, Texas: "Members received 6 February
1916 by letter Mr. D. B. Baker and wife; Miss Viola Baker. D. B. Baker,
deacon, 27 February 1916. 15 July 1917 Bro. D. B. Baker relieved at his
own request of duties of active deacon." Daniel and his wife
appeared on the rolls through 1933. There was no Juda Baker or Juda
Standifer on the rolls. Daniel appeared in 1941 but not his wife.
(The Baptists never list the wife by name).
