Elizabeth Steele Guill

Elizabeth Steele was born September 21, 1837, and died October 18, 1917, aged 80 years and 27 days.

She was married to Jasper Guill November 19, 1857.  To this union ten children were born; only three of whom survive her.  Mary J. Epperson, Jasper C. Guill and Wilmoth Q. Hinch.  All the others died in infancy excepting Martha Sherry and Sarah J. Allen.  Martha Sherry having died in 1892 leaving two children, one of which died in infancy, the other, Stella, whom her grandmother raised.  Sarah J. Allen died in 1905, leaving four children, and all are still living, Frank, Jasper, Lizzie and Pearlie.

She professed faith in Christ in 1868 and united with the Baptist church at Middle Creek, of which church she remained a faithful member until at the ripe old age of four score years, when she was called to her reward, after a lengthy and painful sickness.  She expressed a perfect readiness and willingness to enter upon the journey to meet her Savior and end her mortal suffering.

Surviving her are her aged and decrepit husband, with whom she had traveled along the journey of life with all its sorrows, its joys and blessings for 60 years, the three surviving children, seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss. "Blessed are they which died in the Lord."

Her remains were laid to rest in Antioch cemetery.  The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Laborn Estes of Mt. Vernon, Ill.
