SERVICES FOR TRUMAN STEELE, SON CLIFFORD Double funeral services
for Truman Steele, 82, of Rt. 5, McLeansboro and his son, Clifford
Steele, 57, of St. Charles, a former county resident, were held at 2
p.m. Tuesday, Feb.19 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Rev.
Irvin Braden officiating. Interment for Truman
Steele was in Glenview Memorial Gardens and for Clifford Steele was in the
Hopewell Cemetery. Masonic
rites for both father and son were held at 8 p.m. Mr. Truman Steele passed
away at 11:59 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in
McLeansboro. His son was killed at
1:15 p.m. the same day when his car left Rt. 47 near Forrest, IL in
Livingstone County and overturned. Clifford
Steele was enroute to McLeansboro to make his father’s funeral
arrangements. Mr. Truman Steele was
born Dec. 11,1891 in Hamilton County, the son of George and Ella (Reed)
Steele. He was married to
Martha McGill who preceded him in death.
He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church near Dale and was a
member of the Tuscan Lodge No. 630 A. F. and A. M.
at Walpole. He leaves one son, John
Steele of Broughton, one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Shangle of Mountain Grove,
Idaho, a half-brother, Oscar McGill of McLeansboro, three sisters, Mrs.
Vacle Lasswell of Broughton, Mrs. Verba
Johnson of McLeansboro and Mrs. Amba Alladin of McLeansboro, five
grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Clifford Steele was
born in Hamilton County on March 1, 1916 the son of Truman and Martha
(McGill) Steele. He was
married to Evelyn Nation who survives.
He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church near Dale and of
Tuscan Lodge No. 630, A. F. and A. M., Walpole. In addition to his wife, Evelyn, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Glenda Faber, Mrs. Joyce Davis and Mrs. Karma Desha, all of St. Charles, a brother John Steele of Broughton, a sister, Mrs. Ruth Shangle of Mountain Home, Idaho, and four grandchildren. |
