David Sneed

          Elder David Sneed, son of Ezekiel and Malinda Hannah Sneed, was born in Hamilton County, Illinois, November 18, 1846, departed this life at Whittington, Illinois, at two o'clock  p.m., April 4, 1930, aged eighty-three years, four months and seventeen days.  At an early age his family moved to Graves county, Kentucky, where he grew to manhood.  He entered the military service at the age of seventeen years, giving two years of his life to the service of his country in the Civil War. On December 27, 1865, he was married to Julia Ann Page, who preceded him in death, March 1, 1907.  To this union were born fourteen children, six of whom are now deceased, and eight surviving.  Those living are: Mrs. Rada Wells of Joliet, Ill; Rector Sneed, Ina, Ill; Jesse E Sneed, St Louis, MO; Mrs Lucy Laur, Los Angeles, Cal; Mrs Julia Presley, Kankakee, Ill; Ernest E Sneed, Dallas, Texas; Arthur Sneed, present address unknown, and Orville Sneed, St Louis, MO.  On February 4, 1909, he was married to Bessie Newsom of Ewing, Ill, who survives him.  To this union were born eight children, one of whom died in infancy, the remaining seven being now at home with their mother.  They are: David, Jr; Bessie; Thomas; Joseph; Catherine; Herman; and Carmen.  At an early age he professed faith in Christ and united with the Antioch Baptist church, Macedonia, Ill, but later moved his membership to Ina, Ill, where his membership was at the time of death.  In the eighties he was ordained to the ministry of the gospel and was actively engaged in pastoral work for a number of years.  His faith in his Savior grew stronger as he neared the end of his life’s journey.  He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, fifteen children, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, John B Sneed and A J Sneed of Macedonia, Ill, and a host of relatives and friends.  Funeral sermon preached by Elder John B Maulding at the home.  Interment in Ina Cemetery.
