Obituary
William C. Mezo

From Times, May 25, 1933

William C. Mezo, son of Joseph and Mary Mezo, was born in Hamilton County on August 15, 1852; died May 17, 1933, aged 80 years and 9 months.

He was united in marriage with Margaret Hines on December 13, 1881, with whom he lived very happily until God called her home thirty-four years ago, leaving him with a family of small children.  Nine children were born to this union, five dead and four living.

The living are: Mrs. Sarah Devers and Ben Mezo of McLeansboro, Mrs. Me Smith of Herrin, Leonard of Makanda, Ill.

He was converted when 17 years old, and united with the Missionary Baptist Church at New Salem, and always remained a member there.

He fell asleep in Jesus at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dever, where he made his home for several years.

Through his long suffering he often expressed his readiness to go, and told his children he was going to live with his Saviour.

Besides the above named children, he leaves eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Olive Church, conducted by Elders T. B. Hunt and D. H. Knight.
