Moses McGhee

From: McLeansboro Times, April 26, 1917

Moses McGhee, son of Jeremiah and Louvina McGhee, was born August 31, 1844; died suddenly at his home Saturday afternoon, April 21, 1917, age 72 years, 5 months and 20 days.

Deceased was united in marriage October 10, 1865 to Mary A. Leathers.  To this union twelve children were born.  Three have preceded him to the better world.  The living are: Mrs. Geo. Hall, Carbondale; John McGhee, this county; Mrs. Douglas Akin; Mrs. Judia Moore, this county; Joel McGhee, Arizona; Thomas McGhee, this county; Mrs. Larkin Waller, this county; Mrs. John Smith, Braden; Mrs. Oscar Cardwell, this county.

Mr. McGhee, with his faithful companion became a member of the Little Springs Primitive Baptist church in December 1907.  Together they have fought their battle of life amidst its sorrows and joys for fifty two years--a blessed privilege but few enjoy.

His life among his fellow-men was such that they know and are satisfied that he was sincerely following the teachings of Christ.  He had often expressed his hope in the world to come, and the Death Angel, when he came could only transport him to a happy, tearless land.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Harrison Knight at Little Springs, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, where the stricken aged companion, the sorrowing children and friends laid the beloved body to rest.
