Ann Monday Hill Irvin, daughter of Sylvester and Nancy E. Monday, was
born in Hamilton County, Illinois, November 16, 1865; departed this life
August 27, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Nancy, in East St. Louis.
Age, 64 years, 11 months and 11days. She
was united in marriage to Moses Hill of Hamilton County, Illinois,
December 25, 1883. Her
husband preceded her in death many years ago, leaving to her the care of
seven children, namely: Sylvester Hill of Fisk, Mo., Harriet Rice of
McLeansboro, Ill., who preceded her in death, Nancy Brill of East St.
Louis, Shelby Hill of East St. Louis, Miles Hill of Panama, Ill., and
Lillie Mezo of Panama, Ill. Besides
the above named children, she leaves to mourn her departure sixteen
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She
was again married to Uncle Albert Irvin of Broughton, Ill., who survives
her. She
professed faith in Christ at an early age, and united with the General
Baptist Church at Mt. Olivet, later finding a place of worship with the
Pentecostal faith in the Mission at Dale, Ill.
She remained a consistent Christian until death. Aunt
Protha, as she was generally known, was an affectionate companion, a
tender and loving mother, a kindly neighbor, a real benefactor to the
race, and we realize that she has merited a reward in addition to her
salvation; for as Jesus said, There awaits a reward. A
friend from us is gone, a voice we loved is stilled. Funeral
services were conducted at the Tabernacle at Dale last Sunday morning by
Rev. Willie Bratton of Carmi. Interment
took place in Mt. Olive Cemetery. |
