LaFayette Howard was born at North Vernon, Indiana, October 9, 1854, departed this life September 6, 1923, aged 68 years, 10 months and 27 days.  He came to Hamilton county, Illinois at the age of about 14 years, resided here till the date of his death.

On December 30, 1881, he married Addie Boyd who died July 3, 1888. 

Three children were given them: Leda Poe, Frank A. and Pauline.  Pauline died in her infancy.

February 25, 1890, he married Flora Boyd.  Three children were born to this union: Marion B., Florence L. and Harry H. Howard.  Florence died October 20, 1895.

Our brother left two little grandsons, Charles LaFayette Hward and Francis Marion Howard, who loved their grandfather and he dearly loved them; and he loved his wife and his children and his friends who are beyond number; they all loved him.

In his youth Mr. Howard was a fun loving boy, seeing the sunny side of life, often playing pranks, driving gloom away and letting the sunshine in; a characteristic of his in his matured life.

Early in life he learned the value of an education and diligently applied himself until qualified to teach school.
