Phoebe Elizabeth McGhee Hall

From: The Times-Leader, May 25, 1944 Phoebe Elizabeth Hall, oldest child of Moses and May McGhee was born in White County, Illinois October 10, 1865. She departed this life at the home of her oldest daughter Victoria Barker, Tuesday morning, May 9, 1944 at the age of 78 years and 7 months. She was united in marriage to George W. Hall August 1880. George preceded her in death September, 1934, at the age of 76 years. To this union was born 12 children, 8 girls, 4 boys. Seven children survive her. One boy and one girl died in infancy. Two daughters at the age of 5 and 7 and one daughter, Janie, at the age of 47. She leaves 4 daughters, Victoria Barker, Cora Logan, Emma Hood and Anna Walden, 3 boys, John, Mose and Roy. She is also survived by two brothers, Joe and Tom McGhee, 4 sisters Emmer Akin, Letha Waller, Florida Smith and Ola Carwell. George and Phoebe reared their family on a small farm in Rural Hill District. Thirty years ago they moved to Carbondale, Ill. where she remained until a few months before her death. |
