Virgil Proctor Davis
From: McLeansboro Times, Virgil Proctor Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vachel Davis, was born in White County, Illinois, in the year 1845. Departed this life July 18, 1922, aged 77 years, 4 months and 18 days. In October 1869 he was married to Susan Mariah Sutton. This union was blessed with six children; five sons, and one daughter. His wife, the daughter, and two of the sons preceded him in death. Mr. Davis lived his life in Hamilton County. He was member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a leader of the music in that church for many years. He was a man of unquestionable honesty, and had a high regard for the truth in all things. Being one of Hamilton County's oldest citizens he had many friends and acquaintances, who sorrow because of his passing. The immediate relatives remaining are: Three sons, Orlin J., of McLeansboro, Charles L. of East St. Louis, and Walter K. of Omaha, Neb. One brother, Hugh W. Davis of Eldorado, Ill., and three grandsons. Funeral services were conducted from the home of his son, Orlin J. in McLeansboro, July 20, by Rev. W. E. Bennett. Interment in the Odd Fellows cemetery. |
