William Cox

(1866-1921)

From:  The Times, January 5, 1922

William Cox, son of Jacob and Nellie Cox, was born in Hamilton County December 22, 1866, departed this life December 27, 1921 at the age of 55 years and 5 days.  He was united in marriage to Idella Huffstutler on the 26th day of September 1898 and to this union was born ten children, two having died in infancy, eight still surviving him, three sons and five daughters.

He professed faith in Christ and united with the M. E. Church at Cartwright and was baptized by Rev. Robert Morris.  His father and mother came from Tennessee in 1859 just prior to the war of '61.  Will, as he was called, was a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.  His sickness was short but severe, but he never complained.  His mind was wondering, his talk was about many dealings of life, but just before death sized upon him, the writer, together with others, were permitted to hear one of the most spiritual and touching prayers we ever listened to.  We are made to believe that in his death not only his family, but we as relatives and neighbors suffer great loss but it is for is gain.  He leaves to mourn their loss his companion, 8 children, three aged brothers, six grand children and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services held at Cartwright December 28 by Rev. Wm. Bratton, Cannine McGill and D. H. Knight.
