Mrs. Alpheus Aydt, of Dahlgren, aged 64, who had been seriously ill for the past two weeks, passed away at St. Elizabeth's hospital of Belleville, Illinois, Sunday morning, March 29, 1931.
Mrs. Aydt came to this country from Germany when she was 18 years of age. She was married to Mr. A. Aydt, a prominent merchant of Dahlgren, in 1889, to which union were born ten children, two of whom preceded her in death. Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, Mrs. Frank F. Frey and Mrs. W. M. Crouch of McLeansboro; Mrs. I. A. Kaufam of Indiana, and Eulalia, at home; four sons, Matt and Vick of Ridgway, Illinois, and Chas. and William of Dahlgren; four stepchildren, Mrs. Stacy Paul of Cairo, Ill., Anna of O'Fallon; George and Clara of Dahlgren, and nine grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers, one of Germany and the other, Mrs. Ludwig Karcher of Piopolis and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, March 31, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Dahlgren. The pastor, Father Loepker, was assisted at a Solemn Requiem High Mass by Father Henry Aydt of Tood Mills, Ill., a nephew of the deceased, Father Ackerman of Piopolis, Father Goelz of O'Fallon, and Father Voll of Mt. Vernon, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Dahlgren.
