Excerpts From The Diary of William J. Waller (1864-1961) And History of His Ancestors:

" Richard Waller and Parryzada Odle Waller were my grandparents. They came to Franklin Co. near East Fork Church NE of West Frankfort, some time between 1816 and 1820." [Most records show 1816-1820, however, they must have come much earlier: the 1887 History of Gallatin, Saline, Hamilton, Franklin, and Williamson Counties IL., p.248, in article on settlement of Hamilton Co.: "Richard Waller , with wife, three sons and three daughters..... Uriah Odell and two brothers" ...are among the first settlers. Dau. Mary (Polly) b.1807, Tenn. Dau. Elizabeth (Betsy) b.1811, ILL. Squatters in Territorial Illinois, Applicant, Richard Waller, # 13, September 3, 1807. Permission date:  December 1, 1807. It seem they came to Illinois shortly thereafter. The 1810 Illinois Territory Census, #655, R Waller; #654, J. Odle. The 1818 Illinois Census Franklin Co., shows Richard Waller (148), 1 Male over age 21, 8 other person, Res. Big Muddy. Next to Fanny Odle. Richard is also in Franklin Co., in the 1820 Census. By 1830 he has moved to Hamilton Co. and is found Censuses 1830-1860.]

       "
They came from Blount Co. Tennessee..., came bag and baggage with 5 or 6 children on horse back, grandmother rode a sidesaddle. Some others were to follow soon. but, after settling at afore said spot they waited about six weeks and no one came so they saddled up and went back to see what the trouble was. However, some others had started from Blunt Co., Eastern Tennessee, to Illinois but came a different road... as grand fathers bunch missed them inroute and didn't know they had left for Illinois until they arrived back in Blount, Tennessee, so they saddled up again and came back to Franklin Co., Illinois."

"They left Franklin Co. because of the death of two sons (who before they died leaving chopped and pealed trees, etc.), whose signs granpap said he could not bear to see. They settled west of Odle School in in South Flannigan Township in Hamilton County on the ridge about 1/2 quarter west of Odle School. Then they moved near Carter Springs Church to the present Tom McGee place, about where Tom's barn is... close to the creek. They were buried in Little Springs Cemetary."     "  Richard Waller held the office of Justice of the Peace... a very important office even in the country.
