Services from Springville Henry
James Turpin, who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage last Friday, passed
away this morning at five twenty-five o’clock at the home of his son,
Burrell Turpin, 807 Q street. He
was born in Kentucky to David and Sarah Turpin and at his passing was
eighty years, seven months and twenty-four days of age. He
was a retired farmer having been a prominent citizen of the Springville
community before he was forced by age to retire from active work.
He was a member of the Springville Christian church.
He was a loving parent and good neighbor and friend and was
highly respected by all who knew him.
He had been making his home with his son in this city for a
number of years. His
remains were prepared for burial at the Emerson-Thurman Funeral Home and
then returned to the home this afternoon where they will lie in state
until the funeral hour. He
was married to Malinda O. Henderson September 4, 1873, and to this union
were born ten children, two of whom with the mother, have passed on.
Surviving are, John W. Turpin of Harrisburg, Illinois, Nobel Turpin of
West Baden, Schuyler Turpin of DeQuoin, Illinois, Eliza Turpin of
Needmore, Dras Turpin and Mrs. Ethel Lynn of Bedford, and Mrs. Alma
Mitchell, Greenville Indian, and one brother John Turpin of Tunnel Hill,
Georgia. The funeral Services will take place at the Springvile Christian church Wednesday morning at ten thirty o’clock with Rev. Warren A. Sanders officiating. Burial will be made in the Springville Cemetery. |

CAME THIS MORNING AT HOME ILL THREE MONTHS Funeral Services and Burial to Occur Sunday Afternoon at Springville Mrs. Malinda Catherine Turpin, age 69 years, 3 months and 4 days, wife of James Turpin, passed away this morning at 8:40 o’clock at her home just southwest of this city in the vicinity of the sedimentation basin following an illness from heat trouble and dropsy. She had been in declining health for a long time and three months ago her condition became so serious that she was compelled to take to her bed and she has since been unable to leave it. Throughout her illness she bore her sufferings with unusual patience and often had remarked that she was ready and willing to pass into the next world when her summons came. The deceased was born on April 20, 1856, a daughter to William and Mary Henderson. Reared to young womanhood she was united marriage on September 4, 1873 to James Turpin and to their union ten children were born, eight sons and two daughters. One son died in infancy and another, Rev. Everett N. Turpin passed away in this city five years ago. The surviving children are Sarah Alma Mitchell of Carlisle, John W. and Drass Turpin of Harrisburg, Ill., Noble Turpin and Mrs. Laura Ethel Hoff at home; Burrell Schuyler and Eliza Turpin of Bedford. The decease united with the Church of God at the age of 15 years, and later transferred her membership to the Springville Christian church where it remained at the time of her death. Brief funeral services will be conducted from the late residence Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock after which the remains will be taken to Springville where ____ the Springville Christian church were final services will be conducted at 2:30 and interment will be in the cemetery there. |
