THE JESSE ALLEN MOORE FAMILY

Jesse Allen Moore, born 5 Jul 1802 TN, father born NC and Mother PA.  Jesse Allen married 10 Jan 1823, Elizabeth ?.  Born to this marriage were a son, Samuel, b. 13 Jan 1824; daughter Mary Ann "Pollyan", b 8 Nov 1825; daughter, Amy "Emma", b. 7 Feb 1828, b. KY; son, James Marjon, b. 21 Mar 1831 and daughter, Melissa Jane, b. 21 Jan 1834, Hamilton Co., IL.  Elizabeth, the mother, died and Jesse Allen then married a widow, Sarah (Hayes) McColgin Vaughn on 17 Jan 1836 in Hamilton Co.  (Three McColgin chldren: Polly m. Hugh White 1839; Bethane m. Iram York 1837; and Emily Jane m. John Sneed, 1840).  There were five more children: William M., b. 22 Dec 1836; Michael Smithpeter, b. 8 Feb 1839; Jesse Allen, Jr., b. 30 Apr 1841; Isaac Von, b. 8 Jan 1842; and Vilson Emery, b. 8 May 1843, d. 1862.

Jesse Allen Moore served in the Blackhawk War.  The family lived in the area NC of McLeansboro near Blairsville, Springerton, and Thackeray.  They sold the land for New Hope Baptist Church off their farm south of Blairsville.  Sarah Hayes Moore died on 6 Oct 1887 and is buried at the Christian Church cemetery south of Blairsville.  Jesse Allen died in Dec 1891.  Of their children Pollyan m. 1841 Abram Deene; Emma m. 1845 Edmun York; James m. 1854 Mahalia Williams and had a son. Jesse Allen m Mary Mauldin; Melissa m. 1852 Ishom Tolly; William m. 1860 Charity Johnson and 2d Emily Durham; Michael m. 1863 Sarah Jane McDaniel who divorced him.  He 2d m. Dica Gullie in 1874.

Jesse Allen, Jr. joined Company H, 6th Illinois Cavalry (of Griersons Raiders fame) in 1861.  Home on furlough he m. Sarah Jerusha Jones 17 Apr 1864.  He was discharged in Selma, Ala in 1865.  A son Charles H., b. 1868, a dau Mary Jane, b. 1870; a stillbirth in 1881; and Elvis George, b. 8 Oct 1882, listed as 5th child.  Charles H. Moore was last heard from in 1908 when he wrote from Ark. to Elvis in Sikeston, Mo.  No more is known of Mary Jane.

Elis (E. G.) Moore, attended school in Thackeray and worked as farmhand in Ill and Iowa; canal dredger in Ark and Mo; and shipbuilder at Little Creek, VA during WWI.  His mother died circa 1904 and his father, now living in Belle Rive, 2d m. Margret Williams 13 Feb 1907.  Elvis George, m. Mary Delphia Lawrence of Ozark, Ill, 10 May 1919.  Elvis worked at the CB&O Car Shops at Central City where son Edward Allen was b. 10 May 1920 and died within a year.  They then moved to Belle Rive, Ill to care for his blind father, who died in 1929.  Mary Lucille was b. 22 Nov 1921; George Frank was b. 21 Feb 1925 and Charles Ralph was b. 15 Jan 1927.

E. G. Moore or "Slim" served as Dep. Sheriff in the early 20s; on the school board; was a 32d Degree Mason; a staunch Democrat, and Village Clerk of Belle Rive for some 25 years.  He last worked for ICRR during WWII.  Slim d. in July 1967 and Delphia d. in Nov 1967.  They are survived by two children, Lucille Baltzell of Mt. Vernon; and the Charles R. Moore, Charlottesville, VA; five grandchildren including one grandson, C. Richard Moore; eight great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild, Frank, a Navy man, served for 27 mos in WWII in the Pacific, retired in 1966 and died in 1979.
