Notes from  Don Mangis:
"There were many in the family in McLeansboro, Hamilton Co., in the mid 1800's.  Many migrated elsewhere after the Civil War and there were cases of brother fighting brother in that war. In fact, Henry coaxed the Yankees to release a confederate son from a prisoner of war camp and that son came to
Hamilton Co until the was was over.  I also know that John B Mangis's older brother, James A Mangis was a confederate veteran and is buried near his home in Madisonville, Monroe Co, Tenn.  I would be interested in what you know of who stayed and who went elsewhere.  I know that Henry and two sons, Andrew Bradley and my Grand Father, John Wesley Mangis moved from Hamilton Co in 1850 to Kansas.  Henry stayed there with his third wife and the two brothers went west.  Andrew to Calistoga, California and my relative to Salem and Dallas, Oregon.

John B. Mangis was a son of Henry Mangis and a half brother of my direct ancester, William B. Mangis from Henry's first marriage to Jurida Draper.

My records show (birthdate for John B. Mangis) May 13, 1827, in Virgina (where I expect it was in
Fincastle, VA)."
