McAllister Agnew Hooker

Generation No. 1
1. McAllister Agnew3 Hooker (Robert2,
?1) was born January 13, 1838 in Henderson County, Kentucky, and died
March 29, 1913 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He married Elizabeth
Jane Cottingham January 13, 1858 in McLeansboro, Illinois, daughter of
Ephriam Cottingham and Mary Ashby. She was born October 23, 1839 in
Henderson County, Kentucky, and died January 09, 1922 in Hamilton County,
Illinois.
Notes for McAllister Agnew Hooker:
McAllister Hooker was the Child of Robert Hooker and Levicey Harmon.
It was a second marriage for both of his parents each of whom had
been previously married to Ashby family members. Therefore
McAllister had brothers and sisters and half brothers and sisters from
both parents and was thereby related to many of the Ashby families of the
area now Webster County
KY. However his Hooker half-brothers died young and I know of little
contact between he and his Hooker half sisters. He may have spent
sometime in the household of his Ashby Half brothers after the death of
his father and mother. He apparently came to Hamilton County, IL with the
family of Ephraim Cottingham and wife Mary Elder Ashby whose daughter
Elizabeth he married. A booklet containing transcriptions of McAllister
Hooker's letters home to his wife during the civil war is available from
Patrick Anderson.
