According to F File Box 1, Shelby Co., Illinois, court records:  they lived as man and wife until 1831 when she left his house without any reasonable cause and "since then lived openly and cohabited with another man, appearing to the world as his wife" In March of 1842, Daniel G. Carter, began divorce proceedings in Shelby Co., eventually calling on Joseph Carter, Jr. and Sr. , Nathan Carter, and David Harris to testify in his behalf".

This is probably the same Craig who is buried in the Mahoney Cemetery, Okaw Twp, Shelby County, ILL.  Cemetery Records state that he served in the Civil War with Company K of the 126th Illinois Infantry.

HEROD November 09, 1854 in Shelby Co., IL, daughter of JAMES HEROD and ELIZABETH UNKNOWN.  She was born September 18, 1836, and died January 02, 1920 in Hamilton Co., IL.

Benjamin died of pneumonia in Dahlgren Township.

Birth/Death: Tombstone

He was a veteran of the Civil War. Served as a Pvt. in Co. K, 50th Illinois Vol. Inf.  Drafted and received at Camp Butler, Illinois on Dec. 1, 1864 for one year service.  His residence was given as Okaw, Illinois. Was discharged at Springfield, IL on July 13, 1865.  His health was destroyed as a result.  He was carried off the battlefield at Nashville, TN by the regiment chaplain.

Private Samuel Benton Auxer enlisted in July 1862 at the Cisco Grocery, north of Shelbyville, Illinois in Shelby County.  He served in Company K of 126th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.  He was with this company until April 1863 when he was taken ill and sent to the General Hospital at Memphis, Tennessee where he was discharged and sent home.

Clyde Auxier, Springfield:  The funeral will be held today, Feb. 20, 1996, for Clyde Madison Auxier of Springfield, who died Feb. 26 of age-related causes.  He was 80.  Auxier was born May 4, 1915 in Prescott, AR to Norman and Emma Downs Auxier.  He married Hazel Wake in Prescott on December 31, 1938.  She died May 20, 1983.  During WWII, Auxier served in the Army.  A local resident since 1954, he worked as a warehouseman at Eugene Fruit Growers, now known as Agripac, Inc.  He retired at age 67.  Auxier attended the Church of Christ and enjoyed listening to fiddle music.  Fond of traveling, he enjoyed extended train trips that lasted months, and had traveled twice to Hawaii.  Survivors include two sons, Harrell and Eugene, both of Springfield; a daughter, Shirley Schaff of Eugene; a brother Clayton of Springfield; five grandchildren; and four great-grand children.  Today's service is at 1 p.m. at Buell Chapel in Springfield.

15.  JAMES CLOYD7 AUXIER (LAWSON6 AUXER, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN "FRANK"5, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN4 AUXIER, ABRAHAM M.3, MICHAEL2, MICHAEL1) was born Abt. 1896, and died February 23, 1953 in Dahlgren, Hamilton Co., Illinois.  He married MARY FERN GARRISON, d/o Roman Garrison. 

Child of JAMES AUXIER and MARY FERN is:

              i.     ROMAN LEE8 AUXIER, b. Abt. 1947.

             ii.     ANNA JOY AUXIER, b. 1944; died in infancy

16.  GEORGE RALPH7 AUXIER (LAWSON6 AUXER, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN "FRANK"5, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN4 AUXIER, ABRAHAM M.3, MICHAEL2, MICHAEL1) was born Abt. 1897, and died May 01, 1971.  He married LORA FRANCES TURNER.  She was born July 06, 1896 in Hamilton Co., IL, and died September 20, 1967 in McLeansboro, Hamilton Co., IL.

17.  NANCY JANE7 TEDFORD (ROSELLA6 AUXER, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN "FRANK"5, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN4 AUXIER, ABRAHAM M.3, MICHAEL2, MICHAEL1) was born August 17, 1899 in Hamilton County, Illinois, and died June 02, 1982.  She married (1) JOSHUA WHITE HOOKER.    She married (2) ROBERT EARL TROTTER August 14, 1919 in Hamilton County, Illinois, son of HENRY TROTTER and HATTIE TENNISON.  He was born October 26, 1898, and died February 26, 1961.

18.  CARL A.7 TEDFORD (ROSELLA6 AUXER, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN "FRANK"5, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN4 AUXIER, ABRAHAM M.3, MICHAEL2, MICHAEL1) was born October 01, 1904 in Hamilton County, Illinois, and died June 24, 1968 in McLeansboro, Illinois.  He married GRACE INGRAM.  She was born January 07, 1901 in Hamilton County, Illinois, and died March 03, 1982 in Kankakee ,Illinois.
