The Territory vs.
Abraham Standerfer
Case: Abraham Standerfer (sic), late of Madison Co., Miss. Territory, did on 19 Jan 1813 in the town of Huntsville, assault and ill treat Joseph Doherty,
labourer, then and there to the great damage of Doherty and to the evil example of all
others. The grand jury found a true bill and the Sheriff was ordered to find and safely keep Standerfer (sic)to answer the charges against him. Afterwards
Standerfer pleaded not guilty and a jury was impanelled; John Rhea, Daniel Gibbs, John Chisholm, Michael Montgomery, James Power, Thomas Brandon, John
Stokes, Roadin Tucker, William Rather, George Sharp, Michael Byrd and James
Hollinsworth.
Verdict: Guilty in manner and form as charged. Standerfer fined 6 1/4 cents plus costs.
